So my little one had her first birthday party and it was amazing! We had a beautiful venue, a personalised cake with rubber ducks and all our lovely friends and family. We didn’t have a theme this year as both my husband and I decided that this birthday would be what we wanted because the ones in the future will be what she wants. I imagine her to be very demanding when she grows up.
The setting was the Jazz room at the Wellesley hotel in Knightsbridge. If you haven’t been I highly recommend afternoon tea or a quick drink at the bar. It’s a beautiful hotel with a 1920s art deco theme.
Our guests were close family and friends, in particular friends who had children of a similar age to my little one.
The beautiful cake was designed and made by Janescouturecakes. I googled the picture and found a cake that I really liked and she promised to make it exactly how it was, I have to say it was beyond my expectations. It was a soft vanilla sponge that was just perfect it had the right moistness to it. My daughter is obsessed with yellow rubber ducks so I wanted edible ones on the cake obviously not for her but she did try and grab them and so did all the other little ones. They were beautifully made with chocolate. My party favours were a cupcake to take away that had the duck theme all neatly boxed.
We served afternoon teas there were a variety of sandwiches and focaccia breads. There were several mini pastries for all to nibble on. The food just kept flowing. The afternoon tea at the Wellesley is known for its great selection of teas we had chosen four of their best.
It was a beautiful birthday party and I wouldn’t change a thing I didn’t want any stress so the hotel organised everything for me. They took very good care of my guests and as I said we weren’t short of any food. I wanted simple yet healthy options for the children, there were a variety of sandwiches.
I wore a DVF dress and Oscar De La Renta heels. My girl had her beautiful princess gown made by my in-laws. I looked everywhere in the shops and couldn’t find anything I liked, plus I wanted to have small personalised touches that hopefully she will appreciate when she’s older.
Needless to say someone did have a tiring day…
